Electrical Wiring courses in the UK are based on BS 7671, the Requirements for Electrical Installations, often called the Wiring Regulations. This guide explains the current version of the standard, what the City and Guilds 2382 exam involves, and where to practise.
BS 7671 and the 18th Edition
The IPassPro practice test is based on the 18th Edition, BS 7671:2018. Amendment 4 (BS 7671:2018+A4:2026) was published on 15 April 2026. The previous version, BS 7671:2018+A2:2022+A3:2024, was withdrawn on 15 October 2026, according to BSI and NICEIC.
What changed in Amendment 4
- Stationary secondary batteries
- Functional earthing and equipotential bonding for ICT equipment
- Power over Ethernet
- A major revision of Section 710, which covers medical locations
Check with your training provider which version of the standard your course uses, as this decides which edition you need to know.
The City and Guilds 2382 exam
The City and Guilds 2382-26 Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations is based on BS 7671:2018+A4:2026. It includes a course and a 2-hour online, open-book multiple-choice exam of 60 questions.
If your course uses an earlier version of the 2382, check the registration and assessment deadlines directly with City and Guilds or your training provider.
