GCSE English Language resits: summer 2027 dates

Students who need to resit GCSE English Language can sit the exam again in the summer 2027 series. This guide covers the dates, what the two papers ask for and how to plan revision for a resit.
Summer 2027 resit dates
The summer 2027 exams for GCSE English Language run in May and June 2027, and results are due in August 2027. Both papers are taken in the same series. Check the exact timetable with your school, as dates can change.
Some schools enter students for a November series in some subjects. Ask your school whether one is offered for GCSE English Language before you plan your revision.
What a resit involves
A resit sits the same two papers as the first sitting. Each paper is 1 hour 45 minutes and 80 marks, and each counts for half of the final grade. The spoken language assessment is reported separately and is not graded.
How to prepare
- Work out whether reading or writing has cost you the most marks and target that first.
- Practise timed reading questions on unseen extracts and check your answers against the mark scheme approach.
- Plan and write full answers for both the creative writing and the viewpoint piece, leaving time to check your spelling and grammar.
