GCSE Physics resits: summer 2027 dates
GCSE Physics has no November 2026 resit. The November 2026 resit series covers only GCSE English Language and Maths, so students who need to resit GCSE Physics must wait for the summer 2027 series.
GCSE Physics resits in summer 2027
Exams for the summer 2027 series run in May and June 2027, and results are due in August 2027. Your school or college makes the entries for you, so ask them for the entry deadline as early as you can and check which tier you will sit.
Under the AQA specification (8463), GCSE Physics has two papers, each 1 hour 45 minutes and worth 100 marks. Paper 1 covers topics 1 to 4: energy, electricity, the particle model of matter, and atomic structure. Paper 2 covers topics 5 to 8: forces, waves, magnetism and electromagnetism, and space physics. Each paper counts for half of the final grade.
How to prepare for the resit
Start with a practice test, then focus on the topics where you scored lowest. Physics questions often need an equation used in context, so practise choosing the right equation, putting in values with their units and rearranging the equation before you work out the answer.
Questions on the required practicals appear in the written papers, so revise the methods and the results analysis as well as the theory. The practice test app lets you choose which topics to test and review past score reports in Results.
Because the summer 2027 series is the only resit window for Physics, it is worth finding out early whether your school is entering you at foundation or higher tier. Your teacher can advise which tier is right for you.
